Love the German Pancakes! I love that you give me food that I can actually cook and my family loves the variety and recipes.

I’m usually a fan of all of your stuff but I personally did not like this recipe. Pros: It came out looking great and just like your pics, was SUPER easy to make (way less time consuming than making individual pancakes!) Cons: This tasted so eggy! I had to drench this in syrup and powdered sugar to eat it, but there wasn’t enough syrup in the world to get my kids to eat it beyond the first try. You need to serve this immediately! The longer you wait to eat the worse the texture gets.
    I’m giving 3 stars because:
    1. maybe “German pancakes” are known to taste like a starchy omelet, so I don’t want to down grade it to the bottom if I’m just ignorant
    2. this would actually translate well to a more savory dish if you added a bit of cheese and at least 1-2 additional toppings
    3. while it is edible drowned in powdered sugar and syrup right out the oven, don’t you dare run late on the timing of another dish and serve this past 10 minutes at most. With every minute this thing doesn’t get eaten, it continues to flatten and… consolidate? congeal? It gets DENSE. I should know, I had to take a “see it’s not poisonous” bite to each of my kids in order to coax them into trying it.

The overall consensus from my family is pretty much see item 2, this could be turned around to a savory dish. (maybe I’ll experiment and share later)

The recipe tasted great but, man, did mine rise! It was a good six inches above the side of the casserole dish!

  4. Jamie says:

Does it matter what type of flour? All I had on hand was self rising, but mine doesn’t look like yours.

    It is rising,lol
So I’m assuming to use all purpose flour instead.
